After the success of the 40th Anniversary Regatta last year, it was decided to continue with the same format for our Summer Regatta and so on Friday evening five yachts and their crews met up at WOBYC and enjoyed a few pre- and post- prandial beers in their bar.  After a briefing from their Commodore, Sam Cole, on Saturday morning off we went for two races around the buoys, whilst trying to retain such useful information as 'Number One is the buoy with the gull on it.'

Vixen took an early lead in the first race, which she held comfortably all the way round from Morning Calm, Bill having put two reefs in.  Modwena also set off reefed, but appeared from the North Bay in the second lap with full sail.  It was a similar tale in the second race, held as soon as the first had finished, but with Vixen and Morning Calm dicing with each other all the way round.  Vixen took line honours, but only by a few seconds.  It was enough to give her the double win, though.

Lunch was enjoyed in the bar, with several opting to bring in their own food (as invited to do so by WOBYC) and we were able to watch some of the dinghy racing at the same time.  Afterwards, a small team on Constantia went off to lay the river marks for the morning race before returning to enjoy a pre-prandial in the Lady of the Lake (the WOBYC bar having shut at 6pm) and a meal in the Turkish restaurant.  Others barbecued at the club.

Sunday was perhaps a little breezier than the previous day, prompting Modwena to put their reef back in.  Bill went with full sail and was more competitive as a result.  His downfall, however, was to start 15 minutes later than Vixen - there being a half hour gate from the Tea Garden moorings - which meant that he had that much more adverse tide.  The tide tables suggested low water would be around 11am but, as all week, it turned early and was flooding strongly well before the downriver mark was reached.  There was an easy run and reach on the tide to the upper mark just before Burgh St Peter, then the tack against the tide back to the finish at the Somerleyton pontoon.

Honey decided it was too much, timewise, and disappeared mid-race to return to their moorings at Coldham Hall.  Modwena again decided they didn't need their reef, but were still last to finish.  Vixen once more had the best of it and the entire weekend produced a very uniform set of results with Vixen first in everything, Morning Calm with a full set of second places and Pan mopping up the thirds.  This, however, was good enough to win Pan the Vixen Trophy for best boat overall on 10% and higher, not having won overall.  Ironically, therefore, Vixen claimed every trophy apart from the one with her name on it!
