A very rainy and windless morning greeted the 10 competitors that signed in for the race.

The Yare Navigation Race had taken place the weekend before, as it was the best tide available. This most likely contributed to the drop in the numbers of competitors this year. However, we were delighted to see Halcyon, who joined us for the first time.

The ‘Cecil Howard Jugs’ were awarded to Halcyon (78) who pipped Sabrina 2 to win. Roger Wilson seemed unaware of the first prize trophy and was a little lost for words on accepting them! The Jugs have that effect on most people! The ‘Dave Valentine Trophy’ went to Sabrina 2 for the second year running. The 3rd fastest corrected time was achieved by Starlight Lady, who was awarded the `Green Wyvern Trophy’ - arguably the one to win! Valkyrie 2, helmed by Nigel Kippin was the fastest slow boat and received the Ian Spoors Trophy this year. She was placed 6th overall.

Unfortunately, after a huge effort, Puck had to retire outside the pub garden when the tide turned, putting paid to her slow progress towards the line. Fair Lady did cross the line 100 yards ahead of Puck, but had evidently retired after running aground and quanting off in the direction of the finish line.

Andy Garnham led a lovely presentation in the sunshine. All crews quickly dispersed before the heavens opened again.
